OCLC Americas Regional Council Member Meeting and
Symposium
11: 00 a. m.– 4: 00 p. m.
Hilton Riverside
Grand Ballroom Suite A
Join us for the Americas Regional Council Annual Member Meeting from 11: 00 am to 2: 00 pm
( registration and working lunch open at 11: 00 am) to hear two key task force reports and
participate in a Q& A session with members of the OCLC Board and OCLC President and CEO
Jay Jordan.
The OCLC Symposium, The Infinite Collection: Resources in the Digital Age, follows from 2: 00
to 4: 00 pm. The explosion of ways in which we are digitally connected impacts every part of our
lives. Whether we’re researching, building social connections or sharing our own media, the
digital realm has extended its influence into nearly every aspect of what we do. What does this
do to the boundaries of your library’s collection? What does it mean to curate a collection that is
becoming, for all intents and purposes, infinite? Join digital experts from the library community
for a discussion on successful strategies for dealing with both the volume of resources out there
— and the changing nature of content consumption in a world that’s increasingly digital.
Clifford Lynch, Executive Director of the Coalition for Networked Information, will provide the
keynote address. Joining him will be symposium moderator, Brian Schottlaender, The Audrey
Geisel Librarian at the University of California, San Diego Libraries, and two distinguished
panelists:
Rick Anderson, Associate Director for Scholarly Resources and Collections, J. Willard
Marriott Library, University of Utah, and a 2005 Library Journal Mover & Shaker.
Bobbi Newman, Co- founder of the Libraries and Transliteracy Project, and a 2011 Library
Journal Mover & Shaker.

Support and Training
OCLC to offer free online training for members in the U. S. and Canada
We are pleased to announce that OCLC will offer free, live- online and self-paced
training for many courses that cover Cataloging, Resource Sharing and
FirstSearch services beginning July 1, 2011.
Advances in e- learning technologies and the increased demand for online
learning have allowed us to offer more training while affording greater
economies of scale. This makes it possible to pass these savings on to OCLC
members in the U. S. and Canada by offering free training on the services
members rely on most.
In April, OCLC announced that prices remain flat for the third consecutive
year, through June 2012. Adding training at no additional cost further
increases savings and the value of membership in the OCLC cooperative.
We want all members to be able to take full advantage of OCLC training and learning opportunities.
OCLC trainers and training partners— Amigos, WiLS, Minitex, MLNC, MCLS, OHIONET and LYRASIS—
will continue to offer a wide variety of classes and learning opportunities to help members refresh or
maintain skills, ensure effective use of OCLC subscription services, and learn new applications to help
members leverage their investments in the cooperative.
To find out more about training that OCLC offers, sign up for courses and begin taking advantage of
these new learning opportunities, please visit the OCLC Training Portal. On- site training or customized
courses are still an option; contact Rachel Van Noord, Senior Manager, Member Training & Support
Communities, by calling 1- 800- 848- 5878, ext. 1322 ( or 1- 206- 336- 9222), or by sending an e- mail to
