HCR Prepares for Fall Library Conferences
BCR staff will be participating at all the regional library
conferences scheduled this fall throughout BCR's mem­ber
states. The Wyoming, Iowa and Colorado library
aSsociations annual conventions are scheduled in Octo­ber
and November, while the Mountain Plains and
Nevada library associations hold a joint conference this
year at the end of October.
\VIA is the first library conference on the fall agenda,
scheduled for October 5.8 in Gillette. The BCR Net­work
Update is scheduled for Friday, October 7 from
-8:30-9:20 a.m. At the same ti;"e, anlntroduction to
BCR and its discount se"':ices is scheduled for school
librarians and others who are unacquainted with the
BCR programs. Othe~ BCR presentations it WLA are:
• Cost-Benefit Models for Automated Services, Thurs.­day,
October 6, from 10~10:55 a.m. BCR Executive
. Director Dave Brunell will examineseveral ways of
looking at the direct· and indirect costs of imple­menting
and-maintaining automated library serv­ices
and weighing these costs against the benefits.
• Multimedia Technology and Library Services, Friday,
October7, from 10:45 a.m. to noon. Jim Hensin­ger,
BCR manager of MicroSystems & Services,
will introduce librarians to the exciting world of­multimedia
databases, which integrate sound, ani,
matio'; video and phot~-qualiiy imageswith text
and graphics on PC-basedequipmertt.
• OCLC Group Access Capability (GAC), Friday,
_ October 7, 10:45 a.m. to noon. (Sponsored by the
WyomingLibrary Association) Rosario Garza,
manager of BCR's Bibliographic Systems & Serv­ices,
will introduce OCLC's GAC ILL service, dis­cussing
the benefits and costs of the service.

·, Dreama Deskins; B-CR senior member servIce's
librari';', will present a preconference workshop,
OCLC PRISM Services: Union List Overview, from 1-3
p.m. on Wednesday, October 12. The overview will
look at the changes that occurred in using the Union
List after OCLCmoved that program from the First
System to PRISM Service in late August. The work­ihop
will help librarians make a smooth transition from
one system to the other. The BCR Network Update will
be held on Thursday, October 13, from 1-3 p.m.
The Nevada Library Association/Mountain Plairis Li­.
brary Association Joint Conference will be held in Lake
T.:hoe,·Nevada,October26-29. BCR's Rosario Garza
- will present apr~gram on MARC format integration
on Friday, October 28, from 10-11:30 a.m. Jim Hensin­ger
will present a workshop, 'Multimedia: A Step Beyond
CD-ROM,from 1-3:30 p.m. on that same day. The date'
for the annual BCR Network Update will be set later.
The final fall conference will be that of the Colorado
Library Association,-bookedfor November 4-7 at Key­stone.
The BCR Network Update is scheduled for Satur­day;
November 5, from8:30-9:45-a.m.
