JAMES HODSON NEW MANAGER
OF BCR'S REFERENCE SYSTEMS
& SERVICES
James Hodson has accepted an appointment as
Manager of Reference Systems & Services and
will join the BCR staff in early May. James
comes to BCR from the University of Minnesota
Libraries where he has held dual positions as
Manager of Fee-Based Information Services and
Head, Education/Psychology Reference Service
and Psychology Librarian.
James has been a reference librarian in the
humanities and social sciences for over eleven
years. He has worked in three research libraries
(University of Minnesota Libraries, Temple University
Libraries, Oklahoma State University
Library) and has a broad background of reference
experience.
He has worked with diverse clienteles and has had
significant exposure to automated library systems
as a database search service coordinator, unit
head, and task force member. In addition to
reference desk service, James has provided frequent
bibliographic instruction and has developed
training materials for undergraduate and graduate
students. Over the past eleven years James has
performed over 2000 computerized database
searches using BRS, DIALOG, Wilsonline, and
OCLC EPIC, as well as other systems. He is
familiar with a variety of Internet resources and
procedures and has published a bibliography of
the NREN.
The BCR Board and staff are looking forward to
working with James and to the contribution he
will make to BCR's training program and management
team.

OCLC BUYS INFORMATION
DIMENSIONS, INC,
On April 22, OCLC Online Computer Library
Center acquired Information Dimensions, Inc.
(IDI) from Battelle Memorial Institute. IDI,
located in Dublin, Ohio, will operate as a
for-profit subsidiary of OCLC.
Following the acquisition, the IDI board of
directors elected K. Wayne Smith as chairman of
the board and chief executive officer. Jim
Hackbarth was named president and chief operating
officer of IDI. Hackbarth was formerly
OCLC's director of sales and market planning.
IDI markets computer software products for
managing electronic documents and text on mainframe
computers and microcomputers. Its two
major software products, BASISplus and
zyINDEX, are widely used in database and
documents management. ID!'s clients include
more than half of the Fortune 100 companies as
well as numerous government agencies, publishers,
and financial organizations. Sales in 1992
were $33 million.
IDI has 280 employees worldwide, 130 of who
are located in its headquarters in Dublin, Ohio. It
maintains major sales offices in London, Paris,
Geneva, Milan, Stockholm, and Frankfurt as well
as eight offices in North America. IDI has a
subsidiary in Australia and distributors in Spain,
Scandinavia, Korea, Singapore, Argentina, and
other industrialized countries. IDI was founded in
1986 as a for-profit subsidiary of the not-forprofit
Battelle Memorial Institute, a well-known
research and development center headquartered in
Columbus, Ohio.
