CROSS-UTILIZATIOi~ OF LIBRARIES
The collectJ.ons of the academic merilbers of the Center are
available for the use of all persons associated with other members
of the Pittsburgh Regional Library Center. According to a newly
~9pted statement of policy and guidelines approved by the Board
of 'i'rustees, more comprehensive borro~ling privileges are now
extenaed to faculty, graduate students, and cross-registered
students, ~lith other under-graduates permitted ,to use materials
by complying with local regulations~ ' No change has ,peen made with
respect to the public accessibility to the collections of the
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. '
UNION LIS~ OF PERIODICALS
The master tape containing 'the data and prefatory material
for the Pittsburgh Regional Union List of Periodicals has been
forwarded to Automatic Graphics of~ York for production of a
limi ted number of copi'es of trle first, editorial edition. This
edition, which contains over 18,000 main entries and 13,550
cross-references, will indicate holdings for 56 academic, public,
and special libraries in tile Pittsburgh area. The current
scheaule calls for ,distribution to participating libraries late
in l'iarcil.
:(jI?O;'i receipt of their copy, each participating library will
oe ai;ked to verify their holdings and notify the Center of any
changes. Subsequent changes ~lill be submitted in accordance ~lith
maintenance instructions 'to be distributed with copies of the
editorial edition. A second edition is expected to be published
approximately six months after the first. Since the first edition
is being produced in a limited quantity, it is not expected that
more than a few will be available to other than PRLC memhers.
l"IEMl:lERSHIP
Changes in the center's by-laws now provide a more flexible
arrangement for encouraging new mel~ership in the Center. The
four types of merllbers provided for are votiny, associate, affiliate,
and sponsor. The level of participation in Center activities
ana the level of support of the Center for the various classes
of members is determined iJy the l:;xecutive Council. Additional
information regarding tne four classes of Center membership or
about J.)ecol<ling a I,lember may be obtained by contacting Kenneth
Fagerhaugh, Uembersnip Committee chairman, in care of the Center
office.
