STATE LIBRARY BOARD
The State Library Board on July 11 approved changes in The Ohio Long Range
Program for the Improvement of Library Services~ as recommended by the
Advisory Council on Federal Library Programs. Major changes in the
introduction emphasize recent activities related to planning and programming
for statewide library development.
The Board also approved technical amendments to the Basic State
Plan as well as the Annual Program Statement for FY 1979~ and authorized
the State Librarian to file these documents with the U.S. Commissioner of
Education by September 30.
The Annual Program Statement is substantially the same as that approved
in FY 1978, providing a total of $2,496,066 in Title I and $99,856 in
Title III funds. This program calls for $2,242,830 of the Title I funds
to be spent in grants. Additional grant funds of $826,635 in Title I
and $15,877 in Title III funds are carried over for expenditure in FY
1979. Funds earmarked to support library service in state-supported
institutions have been increased to $150,000 in FY 1979, and additional
funds will be used to identify programs to provide better accessibility
for handicapped persons.
