MR. PHILLIPS APPOINTED
ACTING STATE LIBRARIAN
No. 189, September 22, 1977
Mr. Ira Phillips, Assistant State Librarian for the Library Development
Division, has been named Acting State Librarian of Ohio effective October 1.
The appointment was made September 13, following the State Library Board's
reluctant acceptance of the resignation of State Librarian Joseph F. Shubert.
Mr. Shubert has been appointed State Librarian and Assistant Commissioner
for Libraries in New York State and begins his work in Albany October 3
(see p.147).
Mr. Phillips carne to the State Library of Ohio in December 1974 from
the American Library Association in Chicago, where he served as executive
secretary of the ALA Health and Rehabilitation Library Services Division
and executive Secretary of the Association of State Library Agencies. Before
joining the ALA staff in 1970, he was Supervisor of Libraries and the
Information Center for the Minnesota Department of Corrections. His earlier
experience was in reference and acquisitions at the University of Minnesota
libraries. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Minnesota.
