Library Budget Submitted
~
The State Library submitted a final
budget request for FY 84-85 to the Office
of Budget and Management on Ma rch 10,
1983. The request was heard before the
House Fi nance Cor.tmi ttee on Ma rch 16 and
before the Senate Finance Co~ittee on
April 5. Qn April 11 the Control Board
approved the State Library's request for
money from the State Emergency Fund to
cover the library's rent shortage of
$42,000.
LISCO Meeting Succesful
The Ohio Library Association and the
State library Joint Planning COl1ll1ittee
invited representatives of Ohio 1 ibraries
to a seminar held on March 10 and 11, 1983
at Reynoldsburg, Ohio to establish priorities
and sugqest methods of implementing
the statewi de resource sharing program
recommended in the lISCO plan.
The OLA Board approved, in concept,
the recommendations and the State Library
Board is expected to make a dec; s1 on on
those recommendations at its regular
meeti ng in May.
Microcomputer Center Meeting Set
There wi 11 be an open meeti ng May
20, 1983 at OClC Inc., Dublin, Ohio from
9:30 am-l:OO pm in order to gain a better
understanding of the Ohio library cOll'lTlunity
·s needs and interests concerning the
nroposed Ohio Microcomputer Library Center.

The concept, advanced by the Automation
and Technology Oivision of OlA was
developed to coordinate the efforts of an
increasing number of libraries of various
types and sizes as they enter the computer
age via microcomputer systems. If sufficient
support and interest is shown at
this meeting, a representative steering
commi ttee wi 11 estab 1 i sh an organi zati onal
structure from which to proceed. For more

v Business Survey Unletway
The Worthington Public library has
begun collecting data for a local business
information database with lSCA grant funds
awarded by The State Library of Ohio in
October 1982.
More than 3,000 surveys have been
mailed to all businesses located within
the Worthington School Oistrict and to
maj or Columbus employers.
Company information which will be
made accessible to the public, will
include: product or service; market
scope; number employed and whether it is a
subsidiary or a branch of another company.
Ohio Ubrary Receives Award
The Jefferson Branch of the Cl eveland
Public Library has received an award
of excellence for architecture in the 11th
Library 8uildings Award Program sponsored
by the American Institute of Architects
and ALA.
The renovation of the branch, 850
Jefferson Ave., was designed by Cleveland
architects William A. 81unden and
Robert A. Barclay. The jury cited the
architects for bringing order and openness
to a formerly cluttered interior.
