BOARD RECEIVES REPORTS
AT
JANUARY MEETING The State Library Board met January 8 t() reyiew a
number of reports, discuss current programs . and
appr ove one application for the use of LSCA Title I
funds.
The Board received a repor"t on the distribution of
legislative documents from the General Assembly . The
report sets Jul y 1, 1980 as a target date when legislative bills will be made available
on microfiche (see page 3) . The Board also reviewed a r eport on the St ate
Library's depository collection which fo l lowed a November 1979 visit by the Office
of the Superintendent of Documents. The report commended .. ~he State Library for the
excellence of its collec t ion and services, but called attention to the pressing
needs for more space and staff. .
In other business January 8, the Board received copies 9£ the re solut~ons voted
on by delegates to the White House Conference on Library and Information Services.
After car eful examination9 these resolutions will be forwarded to President Carter
with a complete report of the White House Conference. President Cart er will then
review this report and make his recommendations to Congr ess .
Ohio ' s Follow-Up Committee will meet in the near .future to plan for implementa·tion
of the recommendations of both the White House Conference on ~ibrary and
Information Services and the 1978 Ohio White House Conference. Several of the
recommendations which emerged from the Ohi o White House Conference were also on the
lists of concerns in other states and appear among the final resolutions .
A Title I grant of $20, 221 authorized by the Board will assist the Fairfield
County District Library in Lancaster develop library service to young adults.
Project The Hangout aims to increase the number of you~g adults who use the library
by creating an attractive area, and providing materials, i nformation and special
programs of i nterest to young adults .
Board President Tenney closed the Board meeting with a m~ssage for the 80 ' s
which is reprinted on page 2.
