JUN :: 51979
Mr. R. Baird Tenney of Cleveland Heights was elected
president of the State Library Board June 12, succeeding
Mrs. Earl E. Sterzer of Dayton. Mr. Bryce L.
Weiker of Tiffin was elected vice president. Both
will serve biennial terms which start July 1, 1979.
On June 12 the Board approved grants totalling
$333,669 from Library Services and Construction Act funds (see page 79) , made 14
appointments to State Library Board advisory committees, and approved changes
in the State Library int erlibrary loan policy.
Mrs. Catherine Mead, Assistant State Librarian for Information Resources and
Services, report ed to the Board t hat the OCLC interlibrary loan subsystem is now
operative, making it possible not only to locate a requested i t em, but also to
complete the loan transaction using the terminal. A request i ng library can check
to see which libraries own the item needed , select five locat ions , and the system
will route the request thr ough the five librar ies until the tit le is found available
. At present there is no charge for this service; there will be a charge of
approximately $1 per request as of July 1.
In terlibrary Loan Policy
The State Library's present interlibrary loan service relies heavily on
TWXIL, a teletype system which will be made obsolete by the computerized service.
The following changes in t he State Library ' s int erlibrary loan policy to make most
effective use of the DCLC- ILL system were approved by the Stat e Library Board at
the June 12 meeting:
Service to libraries:
1 . Requests will be accepted on the OCLC- ILL system from any library
designating the State Library as one of i t s five specified potential
lenders. .
2. In each multicounty cooperative or METRO, requests f r om participants
will be accepted on the DCLC-ILL system f r om specified resources
libraries designating the State Library as one of its five specified
potential lenders . (ccmtinwed)
