AMIGOS TECHNICAL
January 27, 1976
TO: AMIGOS Technical Services Directors
FROM: Barbar a Gates and Sherrie Schmidt
Library Liaison Officers
SUBJECT: Bits and Tidbits
1. Correction: Cancel item 4, Definition of partial ISBD(M)
as it appears in "AMIGOS Memorandum 75 - 27", This statement
is out of date. Use as the current definition the one
that appears in "OCLC Revision of Document Changes to
Bibliographic Record Displays and Input Requirements",
September 1975, p.17 paragraph 3.
2. Correction: Cancel item 6, Early Works to -- as it appears
in "AMIGOS Memorandum 75-27". Early works to - (date)
is a general subdivision and is preceded by rx as stated
in "On-Line Cataloging".
3. When a MARC reco r d "bumps" an OeLC record, the oeLC record
number is maintained. If the MARC record replaces more
than 1 OCLC record the higher OCLe number is kept and
the lower number is bumped .
4. In "Anglo-American Cataloging Rules Chapter 6 Separately
Published Monographs" (1974) p.22 there is an alternative
rule (Footnote 8) that states certain conditions under
which the statement of authorship may be omitted.
NOTE: This footnote IS NOT LC PRACTICE and therefore
is not acceptable in following "OCLC Standards for Input
Cataloging" (1972).
5. Those libraries that wish to have the data element, SUMMARY:
precede a 620 note may insert it in a record already in
t he data base. However, when generating a new record,
please input without the data, SUMMARY:; add the record
to the data base by UPDATE, SEND; then reformat and edit
the record by adding the data, SUMMARY:, if desired for
card production.
