Bits & Tidbits
1. WITH NOTE - In sound recordings the "with" in 501 is not currently and is
not intended to be a print constant.
2. AUTOMATIC OVERSIZE PROGRAMMING - OCLC's User Services staff
provided the following information on the OCLC oversize routine:
The card printing program searches the 3'/JfJ field, subfield fC' in the
following formats to determine whether the automatic oversize
stamp should be printed (depending upon the library's profile specifications):
Type a - Books (both Bib lvl m & s)
Type b - Ms (Bib lvl m)
Type c - Scores (Bib lvl m)
3. MULTIPLE CARRIERS - If you have a tape and the record in the database
is for a disc, do you input a new record? Yes, you input a new record, these
are not duplicates. LC is abandoning their practice of multiple carriers.
For older items you will find LC copy with two collations, i.e., one for disc
and one for tape. You input LC copy with the collation that matches the
item you are cataloging. The same LC card number will appear on both
records. You will leave a blank in the fixed field as a modified record
4. T AG ~(J - When inputting LC copy, libraries should input the name of
cataloging library exactly as the name appears in the lower left corner of
LC copy in the ~(J field subfield a. For audio-visual materials the
publisher is printed in the "cataloging library" position and is input exactly
as it appears.
5. LITERAR Y TEXT - How do you tag panel discussions in the literary text
portion of the fixed field for sound recordings? A code of blank is used.
