Policy on Acceptance of Machine Readable Files
for Entry Into the OCLC On-Line Union Catalog
INTRODUCTION
OCLC continually receives requests to enter machine readable
files of bibliographic and locations data into the on-line
union catalog. Records contained in such files vary in format,
content and accuracy. Since OCLC cannot devote either staff or
machine time to the development of individualized programs for
converting submitted files to standard format, and since OCLC
cannot process files containing incomplete catalog records with
any reliable degree of accuracy, the Center will consider accepting
only those machine readable files that can be handled
adequately by existing programs utilized to process incoming
files of LC and NLM MARC records into the on-line union catalog.
POLICY
OCLC will accept, for the purpose of adding locations and cataloging
data to the on-line union catalog, machine readable
files that conform to the criteria stipulated below:
