OCLC 100 CRT Terminal

'k~ter librarians began using the DCLC 100 CRT terminal, there
was often a requirement to generate printed copy of the CRT's
data. OCLC released a report (Appendix 1) in 1974 describing
two (2) possible printers that could be attached to the OCLC
100 terminal. NELINET also evaluated additional printers and
published a report (Appendix 2) of their findings.
Since the HOLMES TYCOM/Selectric printer had many disadvantages,
further investigation was undertaken. This memorandum com­pares
the features of five (5) CRT printers with those of the
TYCOM/Selectric unit and suggests specific printers for various
applications.
I I. Usage
The selection of an appropriate print unit to be connected to the
OCLC 100 CRT terminal depend5 very much on a library's objectives,
intended use, and fiscal situation. An attached printer can be
utilized to
a) generate spine, book and circulation card labels;
b) produce temporary shelf cards;
c) copy bibliographic records for catalog revision
or authority file searching; .
d) produce correspondence and reports; and
e) perform the functions of an input-output terminal
for a "local" computer system.
