.,-----Frorn The President
National Library Week was a little special this year. On
May 15 I was 'in Washington, D.C. with representatives of
other state associations. The purpose was to race through
the corridors of congress contacting freshmen representatives,
and anyone else from the state who COUld, support LSCA
legislation. The congressmen talked to were Willis Gradi- ,
son, Jr. of Cincinnati, Thomas Kindness of Hamilton and Ron~ '
ald Mottl of Parma. All were gracious, interested
ies (because they're users) and concerned about problems
of libraries. John Seiberling of Akron was at a committee
meeting, but his legislative assistant assured me he was
very much committed to library legislation and funding; It
was also reported that John Rebenack keeps him posted on
what is good and bad for libraries.
Offices visited, in addition to the above, were those
f Representative Regula of Navarre, Ashbrook of Johnstown,
Carney of Youngstown and Stanton of Cleveland. Material
provided by the State Library, OLA and ALA's Washington
office was discussed and distributed.
Visits were also made to the offices of Senator Taft and
Senator Glenn. The latter sent William White, ,his legislative
assistant, ,to the reception that evening in the House
Caucus Room.
It was a busy day, an educational day. ' Hopefully', it will
prove a useful day. As far as National Library Week is concerned.
it was probably more efficacious than bookmarks.
