wife Lillian Steichen. Helga Sandburg
is the wife of Dr. George Crile, Jr. They
reside in Cleveland Heights. Miss
Sandburg's most recent book is A
Great and G/orious Romance: The
Story of Carl Sandburg and Lillian
Steichen. (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich)
Miss Berg served as her father's
personal secretary for many years;
later she joined the staff of the Library
of Congress. She is the author of
books of short stories, poems, songs
and has published four novels.
NEW OlA PUBLICATIONS RELEASED
The OlA board of directors have approved two new
publications for release.
/ Recommended Job Classifications and Salary Goals for
Ohio Academic, Public and School Media Center Libraries,
1982-83 recommends a beginning salary of $16,632 for per·
sons holding a Master's Degree in Library Science. Job
classifications are provided for the first time for computer
operator and data entry operator. Doris Jyurovat, director,
Stow Public Library, was chairperson of the study commit·
tee. Cost of the publication is $3.00.
Ohio Legal Resources-An Annotated Bibliography and
Guide prepared by a joint Task Force on Public Access to
legal Information of the OlA Adult and Young Adult Ser·
vices in Libraries and School Media Centers Division and
the Ohio Regional Association of Law Libraries, is a com·
prehensive listing of sources of Ohio law and finding tools.
It offers an introduction to legal materials in general,
sources of Ohio law in particular and commentary on some
Federal legal titles. The bibliography (cost $3.50) sup·
plements the 1981 Survey of Ohio Legal Resources Report
($1.50) written by the Task Force last fall. Anita Shew, Butler
County law Library, was chairperson of the Task Force for
both publications.
All publications may be ordered from the OlA executive
office, 40 S. Third St., #409, Columbus, OH 43215.
Refused to endorse a library school sponsored request
for funds, while stating OlA will fully support such pro·
jects once funded.
Voted to support the publication of one issue of Ohio
Library Foundation Footnotes.
Voted to support immediate request, in cooperation with
the State Auditor's office, an opinion from the Attorney
General on the "Appropriation procedure."
Voted to support legislation which would permit public
libraries to offer other deferred compensation plans.
Accepted with regret Sarah long's resignation as a direc·
tor and voted she be awarded an OlA paperweight in rec·
ognition of her splendid services to the board and OlA.
Voted to appoint Judith Coleman, New Philadelphia, to
replace Mrs. long until an election could be held.
Accepted Nomination Committee Report (previously
published).
Approved the report of the Blue Ribbon Committee to
Review Job Classifications and Salary Goals and com·
mended the Committee chaired by Doris Jyurovat.
Referred Intellectual Freedom Committee's policy recom·
mendations to legal counsel for study and recommendations.
Approved revised bylaws of Midwest Federation of
Library Associations.
Authorized president to write Ohio's congressional dele·
gation strongly opposing the impoundment of federal
library funds.
Approved the policy " Formation and Operation of Joint
Task Forces" (see Ohio Libraries, March, 1982, p. 3).
SHAKER HEIGHTS SCHOOL HONORED
OlA congratulates the Shaker Heights City School
District and Ellen Stepanian, Director, Media Services upon
being presented, April 18, the 1982 School Library Media
Program of the Year Award. The Award is cosponsored by
the American Association of School Librarians and the
Encyclopedia Britannica Companies, and is given annually
to a school district providing exemplary library media pro·
grams at the elementary level.
