OElMA/OlA END YEAR
IN JOINT CONFERENCE
From the opening Wednesday morning, October 28. of several
pre-conference workshops, to the very end of conference,
Saturday, October 31 at 4:00 p.m. · when the Ohio Friends of
the Library concluded their meetings· the 1981 OE lMA/OlA
Concurrent Conference was a huge success. The total attendance
of 2325 topped the 1977 joint conference attendance
whi le commercial and professional exhibit areas overflowed
with attractive exhibits .
) Mrs. 8etty Wolford, president, OE l MA and Nancy Wareham,
president, OlA, jointly presided for the many conference programs,
luncheons and banquets arranged by their respective
vice presidents - presidents elect Ralph Carder and John Wallach .
)
It seemed evident during conference that the conference
objectives which Carder and Wallach had strived for were being
achieved. Newsletter space does not permit a detailed su'mmary
of the conference - it wil l appear elsewhere - however,
DELMA and OlA boards moved immediately to consider a
concurrent conference in 1984.

M.L.S. graduates compared to 1979, he continued:
I can remember when there were less than 2000 a
year, also when (early 70's) the total looked to be
heading over 9,000 a year. The profession needs
more stability than that. How long at 4,000 a year
before we're scraping the barrel again, especially
for seasoned people willing to carry a load year in
and year out?
My response, in terms of the Ohio scene, was as follows:
I would say that it all depends on whether KSU
and CWRU can maintain enrollments sufficient to
meet our projection of 120·125 M.L.S. graduates
per school per year during the 1980's. If we fall
