Nancy Wareham, Pres i dent
Of the many conce rns that OlA members
have exp ressed to me du r i ng the past year,
two have come with increas i ng regu lari ty.
Both concerns come from groups of membe rs
who fee 1 the need for a "permanent home" in
the Association: suppo rti ve staff and Juni o r
members. In order to respond to these and
related concerns, I have appoi nted an Ad
Hoc committee to review the organizational
structure of the Association . Cha i red by
Charlotte leonard, Dayton and Montgomery
County Public library, the comm i ttee i·s
charged with "reviewing structure of the
Association and preparing recommendat ions
for consideration of t he Board of Directors.'
The Committee has been encouraged to REACH
OUT to divisions, comm itt ees , task forces
and various other segments of the membership
for input.
The Committee began the i r st udy and deliberations
at the OlA leadership Conference
early in September. Some of the ques ti ons
which have been already raised are:
Is OlA a public l ibrary assoc i at ion?
Should it be?
Has OlA been responsive to the needs of
its academic and specia l library members?
Is there a relationship between Ol A, Al AO
DELMA and the ASIS and SlA Chapters in
Ohio?
Should there be?
What should it be?
