A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS the goals of the Oh io Library Association are
of al I who staff, or by other means support, the
agencies of information se r v ices in the state of Oh io;

WHEREAS, the Assoc iat ion seeks to enl ist into membership al I who support such goals and
who desire to join together to real ize improved function and funding for alii i brari es
and inf orma t ion ser ices;
WHEREAS, we recognize that the broadest possible representation of personnel and friends
of such institu t ions i s req ui red to effective ly ach ieve the goals of the Associat ion;
WHEREAS, the total membership in the Association is at the lowest level i n over a decade,
and membership has dec l ined by nearly 20% in the last three years;
WHEREAS, thi s dec line in membership support now t hreatens the re a l izat ion of the programs
and goals of the Oh io Library Assoc iat ion in the future;
NOW, t herefo re, I, A. Robert Rogers, President-Elect of the Ohio Library Association do
proclaim a "membersh ip urgency", as an a ler t to all members and friend s of the Assoc ia­t
ion , and as an encou ragement to all associat ion members toward a dil igen t e ff ort du ring
1979-80 to re ve rse the continu ing decl i ne in membership in the Ohio Library Associat ion;
And, I further request that a ll Associat ion division coordinators, task force and caucus
cha ir persons , and committee cha i rpersons read t his proclamation at the earl iest possible
meeting of their group; and, that each serv ice un i t of the Association dis c us s how i t
can, as a group and as indi v idual s, instruct and encourage other 1 ibrary associates in
the values and benefits of membership in the Ohi o Library Assoc ia t ion .
