The citizens at the Ohio White House
Conference sa id that one of the things
lib ra ri es should do a better job of is
publicity and public relations.
As I wr ite t his I am surrounded by
eighty-two (82) newspape r clippings
about libraries, a service OLA/OLTA
subscribes to from the Ohio News Bureau
Company.
An interesting thing is that they
are all from July, not the most gung-ho
month of the year. A lot is going on in
librar ies around the state and some libraries
are tell ing thei r s t o ry. A
sampling shows: Canal Ful ton Libra ry offers
computer s er vice; Jackson City Library
sponsored a program on the role
of the draft horse throughout hi s tory;
Wellston Public Library had a program on
c reati ve sign language; the Sunbury Community
Public Libra ry sponsored an arts
and crafts fai r ; Lima Publ ic Library
had a program on snakes of Ohio; Lo rain
Public Libra ry will lend 16mm fil m
projectors for a nominal fee ; the Bedford
Publ ic Library is celebrating the
International Year of the Child by host in
g an International De sserts Contest;
the Portsmouth Publ ic Lib ra ry sponso red
a family night at the lib rary ; the
Portage County Public Library, Kent Free
Library and Reed Memorial Library have
16mm and 8mm films and projectors to
loan; the Lane Publ ic Library had an
exhibit on the Community Service Program
for Foreign Students; the Penin-sula
