Many people have asked me how they can
become invo l ved in OlA. My response is,
get invol ved in your di v isi on.
One of the pleasant res pons i b iii ties I had
while vice-president of OlA was wo rking with
the divi s ion coordinators. It was truly an
opportunity to see the members hip at work.
I The Profile and Potent ial St udy reported
[ that the members were not too plea sed with
the new st ructure but wanted OlA to stop re-
I ' rgan i zing and to get on to other th i ngs. And
hdeed the divi s ions are getting on to othe r
r th i ngs. Through good leader ship the divi­s
ions are wo rking - and prod ucing . For in-stance,
this yea r at the Annua l Conference
each division put on at least one program,
some seve ral programs, and al l contributed to
t he highl y successful tab l e talks. At the
fina l session, I asked the audience to give
the di v isi ons a hand, for through the i r pro­grams
a good confe rence, with choices fo r all
levels of interest, was pre sen ted to the mem-bersh
i p.
The new di v ision st ructu re is beginning
to "jell". The activities they have pl anned
for t hi s yea r a re almost monumental . More
and more task forces are be ing f o rmed to ex­press
spec ial interests. Do you know what
division you belong to? Do you know who the
coordinator is? Good output req u ires good
input so pick up your pen or te l ephone and
offer your time and talent . If everyone .9

The OlA Nomination Committee will bemeet­ing
in January to choose a s late of officers
for you r consideration in the 1978 e lection.
They need your help to insure that the best
qual i f ied persons are se lec ted. To be e lec­ted
are a vice president/president e lect,
two directors who serve on the board for a
three year term and a secretary to serve a
two year t erm. Names of suggested candi ­dates
shou ld be sent with any pert inent in ­formation
to the OlA Office, 40 S. Third St.,
Columbus 43215 , ma rked to the a ttenti on of
the OlA Nomination Committee .
The Comm i ttee seeks to provide a balance
on the board of directors of persons work ing
in all types of 1 i brar ies by geographic a rea,
and last yea r was d irected by t he board to
give attention to minority representat ion.
The Nomination Committee i s one of t he
standing comm i ttees of t he Association wi th
members appointed by the president (stag ­gered
terms . ) The immed ia te past president
serves as c hairperson.

in the office by January 12 to be cons id e r ed.
