FOCUS ON OLA REGIONAL r1EETINGS
Six OlA Regional Meetings are planned
to blanket the state with emphasis being
placed on supportive staff in Ohio
1 ibraries. This year's theme is "Shaping
Our Image". Patrick Mull in, OClC, Inc. is
chairperson.
The first meeting is scheduled
March 17 at the Ohio State University lime
Campus. Paula Baker, Toledo lucas County
Publ ic library is chairperson.
Topics covering Childrens' Rights:
How do they measure up?; Sex and Violence
in the Library - with a 5'2" bouncer;
Balancing the Books: A look at controversial
subjects, are planned for the morning
)essions. Numerous talk-table subjects
have been developed for the afternoon ses-sions.

of the 1978 Awards and Honors? You -- the
members of OlA and OlTA -- are urged to
take this opportunity to participate in the
selection of honorees. May 31, 1978, is the
deadline for submitting nominations to the
. WARDS AND HONORS Committee for the award

~ REE - Each honoree shall be a member of
or, in the case of a trustee, a member
OlTA. Awards are granted to librarians
academic, public, school, or special liraries
and to a trustee. The term "I ibrarian"
is defined in this context: any employee
of a library in Ohio.
CRITERIA FOR EACH AWARD- LIBRARIAN OF THE
YEAR: Th'ls award is given: in recegn.Ltion of
distinguished service to the profession and
for active and innovative leadership in the
development of libraries and the improvement
of library services. It is expected that
the activities of the recipient in advancing
the cause of libraries will have won recognition
in a larger area than the recipient's
immediate community.
TRUSTEE OF THE YEAR:The recipient shall be
in actual service during all or part of the
year in which the recipient is honored. Recognition
is to be given for constructive accomplishment
rather than length of service
and includes such activities as assisting
the library director in developing sound library
policies, interpreting the library to
the community, and advancing library services
not only on the local level but regionally
and/or statewide as well.
